Graph Explorer
The Graph Explorer provides a visual representation of the relationships between entities in your portfolio. It displays wells, leases, facilities, operators, permits, and other entities as nodes in an interactive graph, with lines (edges) showing how they are connected.

Accessing the Graph Explorer
There are two ways to access graph visualizations in AEGIS:
- Entity Detail Pages — Each entity’s detail page includes a “Relationships” section that shows a graph centered on that specific entity.
- Relationship navigation — When viewing an entity’s connections, you can click through to related entities to explore the graph interactively.
Understanding the Graph
Nodes (Entities)
Each circle (node) in the graph represents an entity. Nodes are typically labeled with the entity name and color-coded by type:
| Entity Type | What It Represents |
|---|---|
| Well | An individual oil or gas well, identified by API number |
| Lease | An oil and gas lease, which may contain multiple wells |
| Field | A named oil or gas field |
| Operator | A company that operates wells and leases |
| Permit | A drilling permit or authorization |
| Facility | A processing facility, compressor station, or tank battery |
| Equipment | Field equipment such as separators, meters, or compressors |
| Pipeline | A pipeline or pipeline route |
Edges (Relationships)
Lines between nodes represent relationships. Common relationship types include:
| Relationship | What It Means |
|---|---|
| OPERATED_BY | A well or lease is operated by a specific company |
| LOCATED_IN | A well is located in a specific field or county |
| BELONGS_TO | A well belongs to a specific lease |
| PERMITTED_UNDER | A well is covered by a specific permit |
| CONNECTED_TO | An entity is physically or operationally connected to another |
| PARENT_OF | A hierarchical relationship (facility contains wellpad, etc.) |
Interacting with the Graph
Zooming and Panning
- Scroll to zoom in and out
- Click and drag on empty space to pan the view
- The graph will automatically arrange nodes to minimize overlap
Selecting Nodes
Click a node to select it. When a node is selected, you can see its properties and relationships highlighted.
Dragging Nodes
Click and drag a node to reposition it. This can help untangle complex areas of the graph where multiple entities overlap.
Exploring Connections
The graph shows the immediate neighborhood of the entity you are viewing. Nodes at the edges of the graph may have additional connections that extend beyond the current view.
Using the Graph for Compliance
The graph is particularly useful for compliance work because it shows:
- Which entities share relationships — For example, which wells are on the same lease or operated by the same company
- Offset well identification — For Rule 37 filings, the graph helps visualize which nearby wells might be affected by a spacing exception
- Infrastructure connectivity — For flaring compliance, seeing which wells are connected to gas capture infrastructure
- Regulatory exposure — Understanding which permits and authorizations cover which entities
From Graph to Action
When you spot an entity in the graph that needs attention, you can navigate to its detail page or compliance workspace:
- Click through from the graph view to the entity detail page
- From there, use the compliance section to open the workspace for that entity and domain
The knowledge graph is the foundation of AEGIS’s intelligence. When AI agents run assessments or prepare filings, they query this same graph to gather context about entities and their relationships. Keeping the graph data current ensures the agents have the best possible information.
