Managing Entities

Entities are the core data objects in AEGIS — they represent your wells, leases, facilities, equipment, pipelines, and other operational assets. This page explains how to create, edit, move, and link entities.

Entity Types

AEGIS supports several entity types. The most common are:

TypeDescriptionExamples
WellAn individual oil or gas wellMitchell Ranch 1H, Johnson Unit 1H
LeaseAn oil and gas lease covering one or more wellsMitchell Ranch, Johnson Unit
FacilityA processing or storage facilityCentral Processing Facility, Tank Battery A
EquipmentField equipmentSeparator, Meter Run, Compressor
PipelineA pipeline or pipeline routeGathering Line 42-A
ProjectAn infrastructure or development projectPermian Basin Development Phase 2

Your administrator can configure additional entity types through the Configuration section.

Creating an Entity

  1. Go to the Entity Explorer page.
  2. Click the Add Entity button in the top-right corner.
  3. Select the entity type you want to create.
  4. A form appears with the fields defined for that entity type. Fill in the required fields (marked with indicators) and any optional fields.
  5. If this entity should be a child of an existing entity (for example, a well belonging to a lease), select the parent entity.
  6. Click Save to create the entity.

The new entity appears immediately in the entity list and is available for compliance tracking, agent conversations, and knowledge graph relationships.

Well-Specific Fields

When creating a well, common fields include:

  • Well Name — The name of the well
  • API Number — The 14-digit unique identifier assigned by the RRC
  • Well Type — Oil, gas, injection, disposal, etc.
  • District — RRC district number
  • County — Texas county
  • Total Depth — Measured depth in feet
  • Status — Active, inactive, plugged, etc.
  • Latitude / Longitude — Surface location coordinates

Editing an Entity

  1. In the Entity Explorer, find the entity you want to edit.
  2. Click the three-dot menu on the entity’s row.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. The edit form opens with all current field values pre-populated.
  5. Make your changes and click Save.

You can also edit an entity from its detail page by accessing the edit action from the header.

Changes to entity data may affect compliance assessments and AI agent analysis. For example, changing a well’s coordinates will alter spacing calculations. Make sure edits reflect verified source data.

Moving an Entity

If an entity needs to be reassigned to a different parent (for example, moving a well from one lease to another):

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the entity’s row.
  2. Select Move.
  3. In the dialog that appears, select the new parent entity.
  4. Confirm the move.

The entity’s position in the hierarchy updates immediately, and the infrastructure tree view reflects the change.

Linking Entities

Sometimes you need to create a relationship between two entities that are not in a parent-child hierarchy. For example, linking a well to a nearby facility or connecting a pipeline to the equipment it serves.

  1. Click the three-dot menu on the entity’s row.
  2. Select Link.
  3. In the dialog, search for and select the entity you want to link to.
  4. Choose the relationship type.
  5. Confirm the link.

Linked entities appear in each other’s relationship graphs and can be used for context when AI agents run assessments.

Deleting an Entity

Entity deletion is available through the row actions menu. Because entities may be referenced by filings, compliance records, and agent conversations, deletion should be used with caution.

Deleting an entity removes it from the knowledge graph and may affect historical compliance data. If an entity is no longer active, consider changing its status to “inactive” or “plugged” rather than deleting it entirely.

Entity Detail Pages

Each entity type has a dedicated detail page with sections tailored to that type:

Well Detail Page

  • Properties, production history chart, compliance status, events, filings, relationship graph, connected facilities

Facility Detail Page

  • Properties, throughput chart, compliance status, equipment list, events, filings, relationships, connected wells

Generic Entity Detail Page

  • Properties and any configured custom sections

Navigate to a detail page by clicking a row in the Entity Explorer or by following links in the knowledge graph.

Infrastructure Tree

The Infrastructure tab in the Entity Explorer shows a hierarchical tree view of all your entities. This is especially useful for:

  • Understanding which entities contain or are connected to which others
  • Navigating quickly through the hierarchy (project to facility to wellpad to well)
  • Adding new entities at the right level of the hierarchy

From the infrastructure tree, you can:

  • Expand and collapse branches
  • Add new child entities
  • Edit, move, or link entities using the context menu
  • Add new root-level entities of any configured type

Keeping Data Current

Accurate entity data is the foundation of everything AEGIS does. The AI agents, compliance assessments, and dashboards all rely on the information in the knowledge graph. Make it a practice to:

  • Update entity statuses when wells are drilled, completed, or plugged
  • Add new wells and facilities promptly
  • Correct any data errors you discover during filing reviews
  • Keep operator and lease information current, especially after acquisitions or divestitures
